MY CLASS- November, 1985 |

This is my pre-school class at Manchaca Baptist. I am the cutie with the red shoes. This is what I knew. This is what we all knew at the time; that "Indian" meant feathers, war paint, and Thanksgiving. Native Americans were just characters in one of the many "Story Time" tales told around the rug in school by our teachers, and they were in one of our many bedtime stories told to us at night. They were part of the fantasy world that all children dream of. I didn't think that they really existed. I'm not sure that any of us did at that time. We were happy painting our faces and dressing up, like we did with all of the other characters that were in our stories or on the T.V. |
