<1> Such policing of character interaction is seen in: 1) formal or informal insistence on remaining in-character in TinyMUDs except in particular areas (see the Telemagica TinyMUSH which is "vigorously themed and enforces it," tela.cpac.washington.edu 6250, noted 5/7/94 in Purgatory room); 2) rules around spoofing in TinyMUDs in general (setting parameters for textual output which is not attributed to a character); 3) having the output of "say" and "emote" commands linked back to characters, and; 4) having characters linked back to an e-mail address (by asking people to provide this information when registering for a character). Although other reasons for this structured interaction include security and enhanced game-playing, the prevalence of such parameters suggests a more fundamental need to order and align subjectivit(y)ies.
