Volume 1, Number 2
The class upon which this paper is based was English 316K, Masterworks of English Literature,
which I taught during the spring of 1993 at the University of Texas at Austin, in the English
Department's Macintosh classroom. I would like to thank the staff of the department's computer
research lab and classroom for their help in the development of the class. I would especially like
to thank Chris Busiel, Elizabeth Butler-Cullingford, and Margaret Downs-Gamble, who helped me
develop the hypertextual applications for my classroom, and I would like to thank Margaret
Downs-Gamble (again), David Ericson, John Slatin, Albert Rouzie, and Greg VanHoosier-Carey,
who helped me think through the implications of these applications.
