Call for Proposals
The 26th ACM International Conference on Design of Communication [1] will be held in Lisbon, Portugal September 22-24, 2008. Participants are encouraged to submit research papers, workshop proposals, and experience reports concerning processes, methods, and technologies for communicating and designing communication artefacts such as printed documents, online text, and hypermedia applications.

At SIGDOC 2008, researchers and practitioners will exchange information in areas relevant to the design of communication. The scope of the conference includes, but is not limited to, the following major areas:

• Multidisciplinary approaches to information design and information architecture
• Participatory and user-centred design: methods, methodologies, and approaches
• Processes for developing information, including documentation
• Agile documentation processes for information design
• Genre and discourse analyses of information design and delivery
• Personalized information systems, time management systems, and project management systems: design, development, and impact
• Designing communication systems
• Multimedia/hypermedia applications

May 2: Submission deadline
June 10: Author notification
June 20: Submission of final version

Submission Process
SIGDOC 2008 will include technical papers, participatory workshops, and
experience reports.

Guidelines for Papers
Research papers should not exceed 5,000 words, approximately 8 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format (available at http://sigdoc2008.net [2]), including figures and references. The results described must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Guidelines for Workshops
Workshop proposals should not exceed 1,000 words. The proposal should describe the workshop's theme, leader(s), structure, expected length, and participant selection criteria.

Guidelines for Experience Reports
Experience reports should not exceed 3,500 words. The experience report is a standalone, six-page extended abstract that describes a design experience and its lessons for other designers of communication. The experience report must include the title, names and affiliations of the authors, an abstract of up to 150 words, and keywords.

Guidelines for posters
Research papers should not exceed 1 page in ACM SIGDOC conference format. The results described must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
