Remembering the client's desires is essential in a redesign, as well as keeping in mind usability aspects. Our group tried to maintain a balance of what the client expressed and what the site needed in order to be more functional and user friendly. The client said that the website should have a fun feel, something simple - which is exactly what our group tried to achieve with the "cartoon/poster" like graphics. We streamlined a lot of the information found in the original site to highlight the more important and pertinent information. We also set out to organize all the links under five different categories, which are used in navigating on the left side. After we discussed our line sketches with one another, we adopted each person's idea and integrated them all into one design to bring forth what you see today.
When I visited the original STA page I immediately saw the graphic with the pictures of the STAs and their names. I tried clicking on the pictures but realized they were not links. The first thing I knew I wanted to do was make their pictures links and have these links go to a bio page that had just some quick info about each STA and also a list of work they had done. Also, I noticed that the info about the STAs was found by clicking links that were at the bottom of the page. The way I wanted to improve this was by having the image on the left, and then the mission statement and info about the STAs on the right. Also, I rearranged the pictures within the big image so that the STA info page would be at the top and in the middle. This takes the links that were at the bottom of the main STA page and gives them their own info page where it's easy to see and navigate.

Here's the Content Delivery Plan I made. If you think it needs some modifications, you can make them.
This is the first complete version. We'll tweak it later when we finally decide who's doing what parts in the re-design. This is just a sample.
1) Who is your target audience and how who are the ones who actually access the website?
2) Are there any future plans or additional information as you find it necessary that could be integrated into the LA ITS website?
3) What would you say the LA ITS website is to achieve and look like?
4) Who is the website maintained by and how often is it updated?
5) What restrictions is the LA ITS website under that would prevent certain changes from taking place?
Who is the site's intended audience? Do you think the site acheives this goal?
How did you choose the specific layout the site has now?
Note: these are only my questions, not the entire group's...as of yet anyways.

The LACIL prototype design is set up so that the user gets a good visual of the lab itself. The picture is very important because it gives the user an idea about the appearance of the lab without cluttering up the page with lengthy text. The remainder of the page contains specific information about the hardware in the lab, the hours of operation, and contact information for the lab supervisor. The page is relatively short so that minimal scrolling is required to view all the information. Eventually, another frame will be added that will contain links to other pages within Liberal Arts ITS website.
