Posting for Thurs. Feb 2: Rihani and Abu Madi

Submitted by micklethwait on Wed, 02/01/2006 - 4:02pm.

For Thursday we have the two remaining poets from the New York scene: Ameen Rihani and Elia Abu Madi.

One thing you might consider is the major thematic differences between these authors. How is Rihani's work as a whole unique? Abu Madi's? For that matter, how is their work different from Gibran's or Naimy's in terms of subject matter and overall style?

Now, the other topic you might want to comment on is the suggestion I made in class Tuesday that you look for some paradox or inconsistency in the poetry we've read this week. In order to prove that some aspect of the poem is a paradox or inconsistency, you will, of course, need to explain what larger pattern or logical statement has been violated. Give that a shot, too.
