Another short assignment for our next meeting: Please post in a few words the topic you are going to present on and how it relates to the theme of your group's panel. Our group may be researching the Arabic Bazaar and its many different elements including exoticism as a product. Or we may specifically research belly dancing and its origins, ties to Islam, and its different forms. Our group will be giving a report on the organizations here at UT that relate to Arab Amernican theme such as MSA, SIA, ASA, etc. We havent discussed what we are doing individually but this is basically the general idea of what we want to present. Our group will be doing a presentation about the organizations on campus. We will be talking about groups like MSA, Palestinian Solidarity Committee, and Arab Students Association. I'm also with the group assessing Arabic foods. I will be working on Phoenicia Bakery and Deli or Marakesh restaurant (since I like to eat, I'll go to both and see which one I like more). Our group is comparing restaurants with food from different regions of the Middle East. For my part of the project, I will be reporting on the Persian restaurant, Dariush. Our group is presenting on Arab American restaurants and food. I will be focusing on Ararat Middle Eastern Restaurant. Our group will be assessing food from Arab restaurants and comparing/contrasting them between food from Muslim and Middle Eastern countries. I am specifically working on the restaurant, Jerusalem, for my portion of the project. |
My group presented on Arab and Arab American student groups on campus. We covered four different genres: social (Arab Students Association), religious (Muslim Students Association), political (Palestine Solidarity Committee), and professional (National Arab American Journalists Association). I presented on NAAJA and its impact on Arab students and campus as a whole.
