Response to Web Projects

You can save this page as a text file and add your comments directly, then save it. Give a copy to the writer, so your comments can be used for revising the draft. First spend some time reviewing the project to gain an overview. Then focus on the key issues below. Make notes in a text file for the most significant issues, and turn it in to the teacher folder. The author can then take a copy to use as a reference while revising.

Writer's Name:

Content

Questions to ask: Is the content complete or substantial enough? Is it accurate? Is it appropriate for the audience? Does it reflect a depth of knowledge and understanding about the topic? Are sources properly credited? Are there links to additional sources of information? What additional material might help readers build their knowledge of the subject?

Organization

Is the material organized effectively for the purpose and the audience? Are the categories and classifications clear? Are the categories parallel at each of the different levels of the structure? Is the organizational structure revealed to the audience, or is it implicit?

Navigation

Does the site invite navigation? What kinds of cues guide readers? How are internal links situated for readers? How are external links handled? How might navigation around the site be improved?

Interactivity

What opportunities does the site provide for interactivity? Are the interactions appropriate for the purpose and audience for the site? What metaphors seem to provide a foundation for the site: gallery, shopping mall, library, school paper, portal, data dump? Can readers easily find out how to contact the webmaster(s)? Are the interactions confined to pointing and clicking, or are there other ways that the audience can interact with the site and with each other?

Style

Is the style appropriate to the site? Does the language reflect the appropriate degree of formality/informality for the topic and audience? Is it reasonably free of spelling and grammatical errors? Do the colors and/or backgrounds make it difficult for the audience to read the text? Are large sections of text broken up by subheads or line spaces? Are graphics, sound, and animation used appropriately for the subject and audience? Are they sized appropriately to allow for downloading? If icons are used, are their meanings obvious? Are in-text links relatively easy to distinguish from the surrounding text?
