My Goals In This Course
1.
Become
a better writer-I donÕt quite know how to expand upon this, itÕs just always a
goal of mine, as I donÕt think itÕs possible to ever be perfect. But I just want to keep improving as
much as possible.
2.
Get
more of a sense of place-I stole this one from the example, because itÕs
definitely true. IÕve never really
taken time to really stop and look around me, and I think it would be important
for me to do so. So many writers
are so influenced by their surroundings, and so if I donÕt bother noticing the
world around me, then certainly that could only have adverse effects on my
writing.
3.
Learn
to find inspiration from different sources- I suppose this is tied to the
previous statement, but I need to learn to take heart not just from my own
personal experiences, but from everything going on around me. I need to find a way to really stretch
my definitions of what is beautiful, of what could be life-changing. I realize thatÕs pretty unspecific, but
I really am looking for a pretty broad range of inspirations.
4.
Learn
to synthesize many different art forms-Music and books are extremely familiar
turf for me, as IÕm a bit of an audiophile and a voracious reader. IÕd like to stretch that knowledge more
to architecture in order to have a greater variety of references and be
better-rounded in cultural knowledge.
5.
Learn
perhaps to turn my passions into practicality-We discussed this in class
to a great extent, concerning how
liberal arts are less concerned with making a living. Well IÕd be lying if I pretended that were true about
me. I do want to make a living,
but I want to make it by doing something IÕm passionate about, which is writing
for the most part.
