My Psychological Type Test
The results peg me as an ISTP. Frankly, the I and T are completely obvious to me, and I fit the descriptions almost to the letter. In the learning styles, I agree with nearly all of the points. It's no surprise that I scored strongly (89 and 88 percent, respectively) in both these categories. The other two types are a bit harder to see. For the most part, S describes me well. I do prefer concrete information, and thus do better with it, but I sometimes find myself in the N category. In my writing, I don't always state things in the most straightforward manner. I often try too hard to impress my audience with flowery prose so much so that I lose sight of my main argument. When looking at the learning styles, I see a very equal mix of P and J, although it's clear through the writing styles that I have many more P characteristics.
The writing styles guide has I listed as one that follows a strict writing pattern, but I disagree with this analysis. I don't see the correlation between introversion and outlines. Needless to say, I don't draft outlines when I write, I dive straight in. It says "[I's] may become dissatisfied with a first sentence or a transition not because it is poorly written but because they are not yet sure where it is going." This is untrue of me; I'm often dissatisfied precisely because it's poorly written. Only later do I realize it has no focus, at which point I'll erase almost everything I've written and start all over again. I agree with P when it says "[P's] pause frequently to consider numerous alternatives ... and to ponder over organizational or stylistic decisions." I'll often be held up over a choice of words or whether or not something just "feels right."
Overall, I agree with most of analysis. Even in the areas I scored very strongly in, I can still see a bit of myself on the other side, though that's probably a good thing. After, a Liberal Education is all about balance.
