The ocean has always been a source of inspiration and freedom for me. In August 1996, I visited
my good friend, Lisa, who was in school at the University of Oregon in
Eugene. We took a trip out to the Pacific coast and I was amazed. Even
the winding roadway was picturesque. We pulled into one of the many stops
along the coast and ran down to the ocean.
The sand was cool and
firmly packed as high tide had just gone out. It was an amazing feeling
to be the only two people there, surrounded by such a powerful force in
nature. Our human impact was evident.
We found a large piece
of driftwood and used it as an instrument to write our names in the sand.
It is interesting that we could not let nature exist without feeling
that we had to leave our mark.
