Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night

I realize that this tiny image does zero justice for the masterpiece Van Gogh created, but it serves only as a spark of inspiration for art lovers. Obviously, your eyes are drawn to the animated sky - the glittering crescent moon and the waves of colors in the dark sky. Just this week (December 5, 1997), I spent some time observing the sky at night. I'm not sure of the technical name for the phenomenon, but this was the week that all nine planets were lined up and could be seen by earthlings. I did not have a telescope or binoculars, so I could only see Jupiter and Venus. It was really amazing. This painting is a very magical one for me - it is hard for me to explain in words how it makes me feel. As one of E.M. Forster's characters stated in A Room With a View, "the only perfect view is that of the sky over our heads."
