
Literature has been my companion for as long as I can remember. My first attraction to literature actually sprung from my connection to the natural themes in the literature. I'll never forget reading Emily Bronte for the first time, Keats, Wordsworth, or the American transcendentalists. While others experimented with drugs and alcohol during adolescence, I turned to literature. I pretended to run to Penistone Crag when I locked myself in my room to read. I dealt with adolescent rage and depression by living vicariously through these characters. Literature is one of the most affordable forms of travel.
