I particularly liked the Georgia O'Keefe piece From the Plains. For some reason, I seem drawn to untraditional, non-hyperrealistic depictions of nature. I like a translation instead of a photocopy--it's more interesting that way. The O'Keefe reminded me of a prairie wind blowing right before a storm is about to bust loose--when you can feel the static electricity in the air and smell and almost taste the ozone lapping around you. Sometimes the storm finally breaks free and sometimes it just skulks off into the distance only huffing and puffing. The colors were what reminded me of the just before a storm setting. They have that heavy ominous feeling of waiting for what is going to happen to finally go ahead and do it already. Her saw-toothes bring the wind to live giving it a swirling and whipping motion. I can almost feel it beating against my clothes and face and whipping around me.
I connected with the Meyerowitz Porch picture as well. The colors and shades of a setting sun and how they play on houses and buildings has always fascinated me. It's almost like nature is taking over all the man-made constructions for a few moments and reminding us that everything really belongs to her...So don't go fooling yourself. On last reminder before the sun goes to sleep for the night. Don't forget me while I'm gone.
