The idea for this site was inspired from a web class project and from the desire to give a young literature greater representation. It is hoped that this site will provide the medium for interactive discussion in the field of Black British literature through your contributions in the form of articles and commentaries. We have several intentions from this web site. Primarily, this site is the culmination of several years of research in this area of Black British literature. It is our desire to publish these findings in a medium that is freely accessible to as many as possible. This site also aimsto assist those who are conducting studies in this field. As the site evolves, we intend for you to keep it running by providing articles and allowing your findings to be published. One of our motivations for building this site came from trying to locate information on the web for Black British literature, and being unable to find it. Also, it is our hope that this site elicits papers and contributions from fellow students, graduate scholars, and established Black British scholars and professors. Finally, this site is designed with the first time visitor in mind. The face of British literature has changed most visibly in the 20th century, and the contribution by authors of West Indian background is very significant. It is time to open up this literature to discussions in a medium that is both open and expansive in its reach.
We would like to thank Professor Jerome Bump at the University of Texas for allowing us to pursue this project as our project for this class, and for giving us the exposure to new media and technology. Additionally we would like to thank Professor Kenneth Ramchand at the University of the West Indies for his guidance, researching expertise and critical knowledge in studying this literature's development. Finally we would like to applaud those Black British writers without whose work we would not have such great literature.
