Goals:
- To become an independent learner. I want to learn to think for myself and develop my personal identity. I want to be able to execute a task correctly on my own and trust my own judgment
- To improve my writing by overcoming writer’s block, improving my planning and concentration. I also want to learn how to make better use of hypermedia (use the computer better), learn the relation of writing to the visual arts and learn how to better articulate my thoughts
- To improve my reading skills. I want to learn to better understand a text, expand my sense of reading the whole world as a text and integrate both sides of my brain in reader response journals.
- To improve my speaking abilities when in front of a group. I want to learn to better organize my thoughts, to articulate them better and be less wordy. I hope to also improve my acting skills.
- To become a better listener and not “zone out” when others are speaking. I hope to learn to concentrate more on the words of others and truly understand what they are saying.
- I want to learn about myself as a writer. I would like to learn how and what I write best and what I need to work on.
- To know my strengths and weaknesses in my learning, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. I also want to discover how I can overcome these weaknesses.
- I want to learn how to use both sides of my brain in everything I do and be able to better “hammer my thoughts into unity.”
- To develop my own sense of place in the university and the world and by doing so gain a better sense of who I am and my future.
Updated Goals (in addition to original goals)
- To develop the ability to see my surroundings as a “witness.” I want to develop the ability to see myself and the world with “eyes unclouded by longing” (Dass 74) and regain the sense of wonder at the natural world that children experience.
- To learn how to better make use of technology and the internet in my projects for this class.
- To improve my grammar skills and become a better writer overall.
- To improve my listening skills and reading comprehension skills. By attaining these goals I hope to be able to participate more in class discussions.
- To become a better speaker by learning how to express myself in an organized, concise manner.
- I want to become more aware of my surroundings and as a result I hope to also learn to better interpret or read the world around me. This faculty will also be instrumental in “hammering” my thoughts into unity as my ability to discover connections in the details of my surroundings improve.
