Mont Saint Michel view one:

The sunny overview of this gothic cathedral is mystical and almost surreal. In fact, if not for the tiny cars pictured parked next to it, the picture could be out of a storybook. The water, or moat, that surrounds the castle like structure adds to the castle like image. The distinct points of the tower and smaller towers reiterate the gothic style. The escape is clearly provided from modern buildings, which was characteristic of the time period. The ¿true feeling of delighting to escape out of modern cities into natural scenery,¿ is seen in this overview.

The sculpture on the Chartres Cathedral represents the human connection to the architecture. The five men pictured share similar characteristics but are still very distinct. The robes they wear are greatly detailed and add a realistic element to the icons. They are each facing a different way with a different expression, which I believe tells a story. It may not seem natural, but ¿the idea of reading a building as we would read Milton or Dante, and getting the same delight out of stones as out of stanzas¿¿ is very possible.(215) The second figure has a child in front of it which could be a representation of a number of biblical things. Reading into the pictures each can portray the rigidity element in a number of ways. Ruskin¿s fifth element is ¿not merely stable, but active rigidity; the peculiar energy which gives tension to movement, and stiffness to resistance¿¿(222) The figures are all in distinct poses which tell separate stories.
