Infinity and Beyond¿The topic, along with others we discuss in this course, is difficult to initially grasp.  Infinity¿the word brings images of a vast greatness that cannot ever be attained¿but not much more than that.  After listening to Professor Starbird lecture, however, I see things from a slightly different point of view.  In relation to what we have been studying thus far, God and Religion vs. Society and Evolution, infinity is a similar topic.  All of these things appear immense in nature, too huge to understand or relate with.  Infinity, we can now conclude, can be of different sizes and therefore can be broken down into something that is understandable for everyone.  Much like our religion discussions (especially toward the end of this semester) the topic is easier to comprehend when it is looked at in smaller parts of the whole.  Spirituality in that sense is much like infinity.  As a whole concept it is beyond massive, and beyond comprehension, but when we looked at how sacred space effects spirituality it is far easier to be understood.  The different sacred spaces we interacted with allowed us different looks at the same concept to increase understanding.  We saw the similarities as well as the differences and therefore saw how world spirituality fit together.  When looking at infinity (and beyond) we see how different outlooks fit together.  Infinity by definition is: an unbound space, time, or quantity.  Professor Starbird, however, allowed the audience to interact with this concept with simple examples of a baseball team with an infinite number of players and a hotel with an infinite number or rooms.  Through this example he convinced the audience that there are different sizes of infinity.  This concept was not difficult for me to grasp because I am in his class and could understand his logic, but it took a little bit of faith on the part of the unknowing public to understand how his mind works.  Because there are different sizes of infinity the concept can become a little blurry much like many of the concepts we discussed in this class.  The biggest thing I gained from this lecture, in retrospect, is that by discussing an issue and dissecting it we increase our understanding and solidify our own beliefs.  In actually that is what this whole course was about, finding out who are and what we are doing.  I believe that we have done as such, and as I look back at my notes from Starbird¿s lecture I believe that we have realized that we are all capable of reaching to infinity (and beyond).
