Images have the ability to captivate us, and move us by great lengths.  Often times, however, in day to day life we overlook the images closest around us, and fail to realize the importance of each.  I never realized the scarcity of images of females around the University of Texas campus until the day Professor Bump asked us to name a few.  How many could I think of?  None.  Now, there are a few that are in plain sight, the family statue by the business school and the mother statue by the alumni center, but in reality there are few others that I really knew about.  As I looked back over the photos from the day we went to see Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe I realize how unconnected the female image is with our daily life.  Nuestra Senora was one of many that I would have probably overlooked if not for this class.  The images from the UT Catholic Center also show the female in a position of great honor, but it is interesting to see how these images are constrained in the religious setting.  We have a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, but where is Rosa Park?  We also have George Washington, but where is Madeline Albright?  The UT campus is constantly changing, and as should our views of society.  Hopefully within the next decade students will have daily images of a strong female as part of their lives much like we have male images everywhere.
