The photos we saw last week served as an eye opening experience for me.  The journey that began at the Alter felt spiritual on a different level.  I think what I was experiencing was a result of the discussion we had in class relating to icons of the female around campus.  It really is eye opening that there is such a lack of female statues in today¿s ¿balanced¿ world.  Before I get onto that tangent, I must stop myself and look back at our journey walking along Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.  Of all the photos, one that truly caught my eye was #3, ¿Let the little ones come.¿  This photograph stopped me in my tracks and for a moment nothing moved expect my eyes fixated on the little girls eyes.  She seemed so calm, so moved, and so innocent.  The flowers she carried in her basket add to the theme of serenity.  For a second I too feel connected to her and therefore to Nuestra Senora.  This is how Hispanics must feel.  Her image is everywhere, and it penetrates through all surroundings.  The icons remind me of trips back to India, another country surrounded by icons of religious figures.  The figures are in photos, statues, and can be seen in the eyes of all the people.  Nuestra Senora represents something very powerful to these people, she is their image of all things holy and good.  They strive to please her, and she has thus become a forefront in their lives.  On this campus, almost bare of female icons, images such as this remind me of the power icons can have upon people.  Perhaps the campus would look a little different, as would the people on it, with a change of icons and imagery.
