Something about this place fascinates me.  Lying on the floor of the capital looking up at the Star of Texas, I feel small yet incredibly protected.  The strength which this building, this space especially, represents is empowering.  The carvings on the wall in gold provide the perfect accent to the off white elegant walls.  The small pillars which hold up the railing are Greek Columnesk, and yet the green makes them stand apart from the rest.  Looking up, the higher levels are less distinct, but the lighting is brighter and brighter as you get closer to the top.  The circular dome also radiates authority and inspires me to reach as high as possible.  From this angle on the gold on the topmost circles resembles seashells – reminding me of “the journey.”  I’ve always dreamed of working at a place like this – I have imagined sitting behind one of these big doors with a beautiful cherry wood desk and walking out into this place/space the minute I leave my office.  Spaces such as these are empowering and can serve as a place to recharge your emotions and attempt to battle the injustices of the day.  The portraits on the walls are of all the governors of Texas – not all perfect, but certainly all powerful.  What makes a space sacred is hardly the building alone.  Any space can be beautiful, but its personality is sacred.
