SL Role Model Activity Directions

11:00 – Sit down at a computer and log into SL. Follow these directions.

N.B. There will be an assignment analyzing what avatars said what and why in the chat histories you generate. So please try to BE YOUR AVATAR for the duration of this class. And make sure you save each Chat History after each round to Blackboard, as directed below.

11:05 – Role Model Activity Begins: NO TALKING !!! All interaction is in SL

Go to The Rug area (just beyond the box where you were getting clothes) and Teleport to your assigned area. Teleport by open-Apple clicking on the appropriate ball (see assignments below)

11:10 – 11:30

1^st Chat Session (20 minutes)

Position your avatar in your area by sitting down. Open-Apple click on the small balls around your area and select “SIT”.

Next, Click on the CHAT button on the bottom SL horizontal bar. The role model listed in bold above is the group moderator and will lead your chat session. This person is also responsible for copying & pasting the history of their group’s chat session into the textbox of a thread in the Avatar Discussion Board in Blackboard. Label the thread with the names of the ALL the participants. To get to that Discussion Board open the Firefox icon in the bar at the bottom of the screen and then go to our class and the Avatar DB and upload the Chat. For assistance doing this raise your hand.

Group Moderator: Facilitate a dialogue amongst your group on the question, “what is a leader?” Don’t forget to copy & paste your group’s Chat History into Blackboard.

11:30 – 11:45

2^nd Chat Session (15 minutes)
