Eyes [10]

The eyes are often considered a window to the soul, a gradient across which we both observe the souls of individuals around us and allow our soul to come out of hiding, reaching out to connect with some people close to us. I feel that since the eyes are both a window and a projector of a persons individuality, the eyes serve as a metaphor to the balance of concepts I hope to develop in myself. To become a respected leader, I seek dignity and amusement. I am always alert to sings of the past that will help me understand others perspectives while I nurture a keen understanding of the world and the future it is headed towards. I feel that I need to both collect knowledge and increase my understanding of myself, my ancestry, my family, and the history of the people, buildings, and landmarks surrounding me. Most importantly, though, I feel that I must find a balance between what I say, do, and share and what I left unsaid, undone, and secret. In The Apology, Plato asserts: if I had thought fit to leave nothing undone, nothing unsaid, I might have gained an acquittal. Not so; the deficiency which lead me to my conviction was not of words.[11]  I admire this great ability to refrain from filling every silence with speech.

A symbol of balance. [12]
