Break-Thru
Bull Creek Park
The beautiful scene on the left is a camp in East Texas I went to every year over the summer for probably 5 years for a church event called Break-Thru. I will never forget the scenery of this place. It was so different from the hustle and bustle of the city, and I always felt very at peace walking in the woods and around the lake just quietly by myself. It felt like my own special place. I can think of no other place in my life where I felt so open to reflection and an overall sense of calm.

The picture on the right shows Bull Creek Park, here in Austin. My dad took me there as a kid once or twice, and I remembered when I came back for orientation over the summer how much I loved the natural rock formations, the cool water, and the pretty scenery. It was never incredibly crowded, and so it also came to feel like a special, secret place that I associated with growing up. When I went back this summer, it made me very glad to see that the creek was just as I remembered it from childhood. This place, along with Break-Thru, became little 'getaways' for me, or even 'treasure islands,' hidden in a way, and holding something wonderful.
