Return to Discussion Forum IndexI have transformed into E. M. Forster as I began to cross the Hedge. "Though my senses were sinking into oblivion, they seemed to expand ere they reached it" (Forster 393). I close my eyes and hear the peace of Nature. I am at peace here. I love nothing so much as the heavenly escape I experience while in Nature. I am away from the things of man.
I close my eyes to hear the soft chirping of birds and the sifting of the wind through the leaves in the trees. I hear the water rippling and splashing as it flows down the rocks. I feel the thick grass between my toes and on my finger tips. I feel the cool breeze run along my back and neck. I feel the scorching heat from a summer’s day. I smell the sharp must of the ponds before me. I can even taste the freshness of the greens surrounding me.
To really experience and capture the wholeness of Nature one must experience it through all senses including selflessness. I am at one with myself to begin the process and move to become a part of a whole and then transform into everything all together. I have to keep my eyes shut at first to see the image in my imagination. I can see more within myself than I can through looking through my eyes. I think weak minds allow eyes to deceive them. In Nature, no creature relies solely on their eyes to see and Nature should be an example for us. Eyes were given to us to complement our other senses. When all our senses operate in a balance of power we can experience the wholeness of Nature, a heaven on Earth.
You have to understand something about Nature: it is was created my God and unchanged from the things of man. By definition Nature is a primitive state of existence away from the material world. Humans are imperfect and create imperfect environments but God is perfect and his Nature creation is the closest link we have to heaven. This is why I feel that people are so at peace and mesmerized by its beauty. The unity of life revolves around the peace and balance of the whole, the Nature, the God.
