The Campus Tour

Our journey began at the Frank J. Dobie house-which was so little and quaintly cute. It reminded me of a child's dream house. The small (two story) white house with the little back yard and cute flowers in front. The inside was very cozy and warm and Frank J. Dobie's pictures were all over the walls. He seemed like such a happy and content old man. In every picture he is seen writing and smiling. Never with an unhappy or displeased look to him. We left the house and proceeded to look at tht Statue called Mustangs. It was really intriquite. Frank Dobie had written about it and I had seen pictures, but I didn't imagine it like it was. I think there were about half a dozen horses built in together. All of them looking for something or running from something. Whatever it was, they seemed very excited and eager to move on.

The Freedom Mare was our next stop and at first it seemed so bare. But after I read the sign about it, I realized how much meaning was set in that statue. The horse is on it's hind legs and looks like it is ready to fly away. I wish I could fly away with that horse too. She represents the wild and crazy spirit of a woman. And I feel so close to her because I too have that same wild and crazy need to be free from all my troubles. Only 100 feet away from the Freedom Mare is the Longhorn. He represents our wonderful state of Texas and the proud honor that goes with living here. Not only is he a symbol of honor and pride, he represents courage and hardwork that Texas fought to gain it's independence many years ago, on this very day. His big broad body also represnts the strength and high standard Texas and especially UT must live up to and with-hold.

I was acutally deeply moved and touched when we looked at our final staute "Generations." The grandfather shown holding the baby longhorn, while talking to his grand-daughter represents the many generations of greatness UT has or will see. Starting way back and up until now, UT's standard's are amazing and the baby longhorn stands for this. The grand-father is nurturing the longhorn to become strong and great as he is known to be. The grand-daughter, as well, will be nurtured and grow to be a true Texan and a true Longhorn. Longhorns are the key to the past and future! Hook 'Em!!
