When I wrote this I wasn't sxpecting an audience. Please excuse its free-flow format and poor grammar. In all of the years I have spent on campus I have never sat down and watched anything, let alone a tree. The closest I have come to such paatience is sitting through class. I have to confess that watching this sycamore is much more enjoyable than sitting through a lecture. When I think about our college and how much nature sits in between its buildings, I am mad at myself for missing it all in these four years. THis tree and all the others on campus were chosen to stand, to not be cut down, for our enjoyment. Imagine this campus without the trees and bushes, its lawns or the squirrels that live there. No one would want to eat outside in the heat if there wasn't the shade of a tree to sit under. We all take these things for granted. My favorite book as a little girl was The Giving Tree. I don't want to end up old one day sittin on a tree stump having used up all the other parts of the trees. I am realizing nature around me, and don;t intend to look back with regret.Return to Discussion Forum Index
