Sitting under a giant cider, on a carpet of dried leaves, I was wondering what I am going to write. In front of me, there are numerous irregular shape of roots coming out of the solid soil. Next to my right, there is a bridge. Under the bridge, water coming out and splitting it into many different streams. This stream is closely surrounded by many trees like cypress, cider and plants. At first, I am indifferent about this creek scenery. After a while, my mind begins to fill with imaginations. When the creek flows to my left side and split into many streams, each streams seems to expressing her emotions. Although I don't understand it, the music is created in a rhythmic pattern. The sound is very soothing that cause me to think of it as the music from the heaven. Look carefully, there are some fishes swimming in the water happily. They seem very careless without worrying if there is any predator waiting to catch them. With the music of river, the fish seems like they are following the beautiful rhythm and dance in a strange cyclic patter. The scene of this creek is gorgeous with many pretty trees surrounding it. "This place, the redwood, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always." I believe it means that if something is precious or important to you, you will always remember it in you heart. (p178) The creek symbolizes a course of destiny. I believe different people have different fate. From the law of gravity, water always flow downward and it can never against the nature. Like human beings, I believe the we already have a set of destiny that is waiting for us to explore and we can never change or deny it, but within this set of destiny, there are options for us to pick, just like the stream that split into different smaller ones. And flow into a separate pathway. The wave in the flowing stream change constantly and it is not the same everyday. To my perspective, the water flow in a continuous assembling and splitting pattern. The splitting represent people have different destiny and they separate with another. The assembling means that in some point of our life, we met our friends and join together. Moreover, the creek can relieve our stress that we face everyday. "If you can't make your peace with God, down here you 've still won an armistice." (p164) If we try our best to appreciate the creek, we might as well can be a happier person. Also, the trees that surround the creek are like our family members that guard us and protect us from harm.Return to Discussion Forum Index
