CHRIST CHURCH MEADOW
Christ Church Meadow is an experience all
its own. By walking around the Meadow path you can become overpowered by
nature and animal-life. There are times when the nature is so overpowering that Christ Church itself is dwarfed
and obscured by the trees and size of the meadow. Although the meadow no
longer has longhorns grazing in the fields, the vastness of the meadow is
unparalleled at Oxford. It seems to me
that in present days; as walks out into the countryside have diminished due
to the expansion of the city, that the meadow could serve as one of two areas
at Oxford as its substitute. When walking through the meadow alone I could
help but feel relaxed from the rigors of traveling and studying at Oxford.
Not only containing a
incalculable diversity in plant life, the meadow is still home to various
other types of life such as birds and ducks. It is this accessibility to
nature that makes Christ Church amazing.

Oxford Obscured by Nature

Unfortunately Christ Church does not have any
larger forms of life, I would really liked to have
placed Christ Church at the top of my Oxford nature hierarchy
because it had longhorns grazing in it. Nevertheless, walking around Christ Church does afford its
own personal time for introspection. I have found that there is a correlation
between the amount of nature present and my thoughts. As I spend more time in
nature and the more of it around, the more I think. I don’t think of math
problems but of life. Perhaps it is in being surrounded with life that causes
one to focus on it more. I wonder if I would take advantage of the natural
setting at Christ Church if I were one of its students or if I would even
take notice of it. I know from past experience that if I had never taken this
class that I would unconsciously spend some of my time in nature. However,
now that I have a conscious awareness of nature and how it effects
me I wonder if it will somehow be lost.
