The Nature of Oxford
|
INSIDE TRINITY COLLEGE
Trinity contains a wide variety of nature. Aside
from just different types of plants, flowers, and trees, there is a small a
distinction between the different areas around the college. When you walk in the gate you come Front Quad which has trees with apples and some open
spaces of lawn. This area is different from Durham Quad which is a rather
small and barren lawn in the middle of the stone quad. This small quad is
then offset by the rather expansive lawns in the Gardens. Right next to the
Gardens is the Woodland area that stands out as the best
part of Trinity College. In the Woodland
Area it is quite possible to get lost for a couple of seconds because the
trees are almost capable of veiling you in nature, out of sight from the
college.

The college also contains a private garden
behind the President’s Lodgings and I was not able to get into that area.
However, the idea of President’s having gardens made me think about how
important nature is to a lot of people. Although that idea might seem like a
common sense revelation my newly found appreciation for nature still makes
the most basic observations about nature new to me.
Trinity College ranks fairly
moderate in my hierarchy of oxford’s nature spots. However, Trinity College
does offer some get away from the stones and walls of the college by
providing big lawns and trees to shade the college from the sight of
retreating scholars. What Trinity lacks in great diversity it makes up for in
size with its large Gardens and Woodland Area.
