SOUTH-CENTRAL RENAISSANCE CONFERENCE
MINUTES OF THE GENERAL BUSINESS MEETING
APRIL 4, 1998
Waco, Texas
1. James Baumlin, SCRC president, called the meeting to order at 8 a.m.
on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
2. John Mercer, secretary-treasurer, read the minutes of the 1997
general business meeting, and they were approved. He reported that SCRC
had 203 dues-paid and emeritus members in 1997, up from 168 in 1996 and
125 in 1994 and 1995. He also reported that SCRC has $2845.25 in a
checking account and $8578.05 in a certificate of deposit.
3. In the absence of EIRC editor Tita French Baumlin, James Baumlin
reported that EIRC is now indexed in the Art Index and encouraged members
to submit articles for publication in EIRC.
4. Phoebe Spinrad, editor of Discoveries, announced that subscriptions
to Discoveries are now free to libraries and asked for submissions of
articles and reviews.
5. George Klawitter, SCRC Webmaster, announced that SCRC's Web site now
has four hyperlinks and will soon include photographs of conference
participants.
6. Elizabeth Skerpan, chair of the nominating committee, nominated Liana
De Girolami Cheney for president, John Ford for vice president (both for
one-year terms), Raymond-Jean Frontain for executive secretary-treasurer
(three-year term), and Margaret Flansburg, Katherine McIver, Katherine
Powers (two-year terms), and Ellen Longsworth (one-year term) for the
executive committee. All were elected by acclamation.
7. President Baumlin expressed special appreciation to Maurice Hunt,
local arrangements chair, and John Ford, program chair, for doing such a
fine job on this year's meeting in Waco.
8. Baumlin announced that the board has named the following Members
Emeritus: Gloria Fiero, David Hart, Joseph Holtgen, Marjorie Lewis, James
Potts, Joseph Riley, and Louis Charles Stagg.
9. Baumlin announced that April 8-10, 1999, SCRC will meet jointly with
the Southeastern Renaissance Conference in Savannah, Georgia, hosted by
the Savannah College of Art and Design. SCRC program chair will be Donald
Dickson. In 2000 SCRC will meet in Lafayette, Louisiana, hosted by the
University of Southwestern Louisiana. In 2001 SCRC will meet in College
Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M University.
10. Donald Dickson, 1999 program chair, called for special-session
topics for the Savannah meeting to be submitted by May 1. He asked that
those suggesting a topic find two or three presenters for the
session.
11. The membership voted to transfer the funds currently in a
certificate of deposit to more diversified investments, about 30% to 50%
in mutual funds.
12. The membership voted, effective 1999, to raise membership dues from
$10 to $20, and from $5 to $10 for students.
13. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
