About This Project (Project 3)
Even though this film is not Oscar bound, it was made in the sense that many other Sci-Fi flics have been made. This sense is that of trying to predict what the future will be like at the mercy of technology. What will society look like, how different will technology be, and how will we be using it? are just a few of the basic questions that film makers of Sci-Fi of this type and the makers of Johnny Mnemonic have tried to visualize and place on the screen for others to interpret. Note that the view held by many in the public media is one of society deteriorating because of computers and technology and of which the majority of these people do not know a thing about current technology. Of course public media will most likely present the down or controversal side of a subject to make a point and send a message so people think about and avoid certain perils as in Johnny Mnemonic.
The film's plot takes place in the future in which technology has driven the majority of society into a dark depression. This technology is all an interactive cyberspace. In reality of today's internet, cyberspace is just many computer parts and phone lines interacting and exchanging data with each other. I believe this film was produced to make cyberspace tangible and to show what it would look like or might look like if it could be seen. This differs in my thoughts on why I think the book was written. I believe the book is to show how society might be affected for the worse with this kind of technology. These are two important aspects between the two different media.
