"A piece of skin the size of a quarter contains more than 3 million cells, 100 to 340 sweat glands, 50 nerve endings and 3 feet of blood vessels." Ashley Montagu
Massage is one of the very few times when a person will have 30 minutes or an hour absolutely focused on herself. This really has a calming effect. Not only for the client but also for the therapist.
For me, giving a massage is like watching a wonderful ballet or listening to an incredible symphony in your mind. Your movements should like that flow. That flow makes the massage much more relaxing for both me and my client.
I think that anyone who is willing to be sensitive, present and available for another human being is able to give an effective massage. Massage therapists don't actually heal anyone. Rather, we provide the context in which a person can begin to heal himself.
