History of Massage

Massage is known to be among the oldest of all medical treatments used by man. Records indicate that ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians used forms of massage for some ailments, and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulation problems.

Today, massage is an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs and has proven beneficial for many chronic conditions such as low back pain, arthritis and bursitis. Massage helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living.

Massage Therapy has long been administered for its soothing, healing and recuperative benefits. It is useful for restoring muscles to their normal contractual patterns by breaking spasms and tightness caused by prolonged postural positions. Massage is instrumental in healing “pulled,” strained or
overused muscles and tendons. It is recommended by professionals to promote stress reduction and relaxation. Massage also helps to establish an awareness between mind and body, linking thought with action, and emotions with muscle patterns.
