Project Work
Researching The Dissemination of On-Line Information

This is a collaborative project that involves research and production of a hypertext in some form. You will get to choose your own groups, subject to my approval. Groups cannot contain more than 4 people. I suggest breaking up the work: one person work on the software and/or programming, another do graphic design, scanning, another compile research material, etc.

Options include:

  1. Redesigning the Class WWW Site and adding more nodes as well as making sure the class is registered with all the major search engines. Include an annotated list of further references.
  2. Designing a site about search engines. How do they work? Do a comparison of the major sites using the same search string. Which worked best? Make a glossary for the uninformed--what does it mean by a boolean command? Include an annotated list of further references.
  3. Design a site that investigates the difference between the goal of the information and its content. What is the difference between political campaigns, commercial sites (.com) and educational (.edu)? How does their rhetoric (& design) differ? Include an annotated list of further references.
  4. Design a site that carefully articulates what an "ideal" site should consist of in terms of design and content. Include an annotated list of further references.

These are suggestions, not required topics.
