USAID
has been
able
to provide numerous
humanitarian acts that have helped many underdeveloped countries. It is
America's duty as a rich nation to provide assistance to those in need. Thanks
to USAID, the life expectancy in the developing world has increased by 33
percent in the past twenty years, while the world's chronically undernourished
have been reduced by 50 percent ("A Record of
Accomplishments"). The cause of world hunger is poverty, and if the U.S. can provide enough assistance through USAID, poverty levels will decline throughout the world. Early USAID action in southern Africa in 1992 prevented massive famine in the region, saving millions of lives ("A Record of Accomplishments"). Impoverished peoples are susceptible to disease because of a lack of nourishment, and their body's immune system cannot overpower disease. Through USAID immunization programs, more than 3 million lives are saved every year ("A Record of Accomplishments").
Families in poverty-stricken countries are also gaining an education on family planning through USAID programs. In the 28 countries with the largest USAID-sponsored family planning programs, the average number of children per family has dropped from 6.1 in the mid-1960's to 4.2 today ("A Record of Accomplishments").
USAID is an essential component in fighting world hunger . It's immense number of accomplishments make the program both beneficial and worthwhile.
