He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in communications in 1996 before receiving a Master's in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. While in graduate school, he met with the core group of people who would come to form the brain trust of 999.com. After interning with various startups, Jay was eventually recruited by Erica, of the 999.com management staff.
