Definitions
breaks - a break is the end of a line. Word
processors automatically insert "soft breaks" at the end of each
line you type. When you press the Enter key to make a new paragraph,
you are inserting a "hard break".
browser - a browser is a program that retreives
information from the internet for you and formats it according to roughly
standard protocols. Netscape and Explorer are the 2 most popular
browsers now.
spidering - spidering is the process whereby a
search engine scans your website and enters it into its database.
Once your page has been spidered by a search engine, that engine will list
your page. Different engines collect different pieces of data from
your page - some record all of your text; others only keywords.
Using META tags can help a database to categorize your page more
accurately
text editor - a text editor is a stripped-down
word processor, like SimpleText or WordPad. You can compose HTML in
text editors, but not in word processors (like MS Word).
File Manager (Geocities) - A graphic
representation of your directory (main folder) in Geocities. You can
upload files to this folder, change the files in the folder, add graphics
to the foilder, and delete files from the folder.
hexadecimal code - a 6-character code denoting a
particular color. Hexadecimal code is standardized, and is the way
colors are denoted on the internet.
