To use UT's server space, go to http://webspace.utexas.edu .

  1. Use your UT EID & EID password to login.

  2. Use the Upload button to transfer .htm, .gif, and .jpg files to UT's server.  The default directory will be http://webspace.utexas.edu/YourEID/  (where "YourEID" is actually your own EID, not the word "YourEID").

If you saved your first page as "index.html," going to your URL will automatically open that page; if not, it will automatically open your directory structure.

  3. To revise any page on the server, use the download button to copy the file to your hard drive, and edit it using SimpleText (Macs) or WordPad (PCs).

To transfer files from Geocities to UT's server space, open your URL in your browser.

  1. Click "View/Page Source" (or words to that effect, depending on which browser you are using) to see the code underlying the page.

  2. Highlight and copy this code into a new SimpleText file.  If you have multiple pages, change the links between the pages to reflect the new address!  Save the file as.html.

  3. Upload the file to your server space a http://webspace.utexas.edu

  4. To copy your images, open your geocities URL in your browser.  Right-click (or control-click on Macs) on the image to get a pop-up menu.  From the pop-up menu, select "Save Image" (or words to that effect, depending on your browser).  Save the image to your hard drive.

  5. Repeat for all images.

  6. Upload files from your hard drive to your UT server space.

  7. To copy your background, open your geocities URL in your browser.  Right-click anywhere on the background of your page.  Select "View background as Image" in Netscape.  Right-click on the subsequent tile image and save to your hard drive. (In Explorer, select "Save Background As" and save to your hard drive).

  8. Upload file to your UT server space.
