the la its presentation
At the time of writing this page, it is still not determined just how many people will be attending our presentation. It could be just Gary and Suloni, but there could be a few others, as well. Either way, we have to prepare for there being only a few people and there being many.
I envision the presentation starting at 3:35 pm sharp, and following this basic order (an order which we can discuss and revise):
- 3:20 - 3:30: room configuration -- please be early to class
- 3:35 - 3:40: Introductory remarks from Bill
- 3:40 - 4:20: 10 minute presentations from each group
- 4:20 - 4:45: question and answer session
As we have seen from presenting the new web sites in class, each group has identified similar problems with the current LA ITS site, and when each group repeats those issues the presentations become redundant. So, for this presentation I would like each group to choose from our class-generated list of problems 1 main issue that they focused on in their re-design and highlight that issue when making their presentation. Take that one issue from the initial Inventory and Analysis, through your usability and accessibility readings, through your prototype, to your final redesign, and perhaps make some suggestions for further exploration of the issue. The goal here is to be focused and detailed, and if each group is focused and detailed on 1 subject we will explore 4 subjects in depth instead of having cursory discussion of maultiple issues. In my introduction I will highlight the total list of problems we found, and mention which each group is going to focus on.
You may present your content in a variety of ways, but I do recommend a basic PowerPoint presentation that contains screen shots, pictures of your wireframes, flowcharts, rough drafts, etc, and text from your Communication Brief and analysis.
You may also consider making a basic web page with links to the materials you will discuss on your page. You basic web page should be accessible and conform to web standards and use CSS. If your current home page conforms to these criteria, you may link the materials off your home page. If it does not conform, and is based on the old HTML model, then please update it (note: only update it if you are choosing to use it as the launching point for your presentation.
Do not expect to rely on the teacher folder to find what you need. We will not have the time for your group to be searching for materials.
Please do not focus on the negative; rather, discuss things in terms of improving what is already there.
Be prepared to make your presentation and to answer questions. Reherse your presentation so that it is not longer than 10 minutes.
Your group may choose 1 person to make the presentation or 2 people or each member can say a few things. Make sure each person knows their role and is respectful of others' roles. You can have a few people do the initial presentation and the others talk about the poster during the greeting portion.
Dress accordingly -- not too dressy, but not too slouchy either.
Do not be late.
Please make sure all issues addressed in your final re-design comments have been fixed. We will be using Firefox, not IE, for the presentation.
