designing your portfolio

The skills learned in this course are ones that are extremely marketable, and should be showcased when applying for any computer-related or design position. While a resume is nice to have, more and more often potential employers are asking for portfolios that highlight your work and your abilities. As a result, we will be creating portfolios with a professional look and feel - ones you would feel confident asking a potential employer to see. For the purposes of this course, you will be asked to include almost all of the original web and graphic design work you create (do not include Photoshop lessons work). But when asking an employer to look at your work, please only include what you consider to be the work that is not just the best, but indicative of your abilities. If you choose the option to create a portfolio of other work -- photos, artwork, etc. -- please see me so we can discuss what you are planning to include and the information that will accompany the work.

Please include the following in your portfolio:

  • Screen shots of web pages you created for your group.
  • All images that you create for the course.
  • Anything else you would like to include.

When adding one of your designs to your portfolio, please include the following information:

  • Date it was created
  • Project Description
  • Your role in the design (for example, sole designer, role in the group, etc.)
  • Design Objectives
  • Applications used
  • File size
  • Any material provided by the client (for example or images not created by yourself or your group)

There will be several design assignments over the rest of the semester; please add your work to the portfolio as the work is created.
